Ridley College and NRPS face off in a charity basketball game in support of local charities

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

St. Catharines, Ont. — The Niagara Regional Police Service returned to the court on Wednesday, April 29th, squaring off against Ridley College faculty and students in the second annual charity basketball game in support of United Way Golden Horseshoe and Community Care of Niagara.

Held at Ridley College, the event brought together students, officers, educators and community members for an evening of friendly competition and charitable giving. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural game, the annual matchup continues to grow as a community tradition that blends sport, service and school spirit.

David Zanic, Athletic Director at Ridley College, said the enthusiasm from participants and spectators alike underscored the importance of continuing the annual event.

“We’re thrilled to see this game return for a second year and to once again bring our community together in support of two incredible organizations,” Zanic said. “The generosity shown through food donations and fundraising will have a meaningful impact, and we look forward to building on this event in the years ahead.”

“Community Care is thrilled to be one of the charities of choice to receive support from this event. We have a long history of support from Ridley College, for which we are immensely grateful. Thank you to all who choose to donate, to Ridley for their continued support and to the NRP for being such good sports!”

  • Betty-Lou Souter, CEO of Community Care St. Catharines and Thorold.

“As United Way Golden Horseshoe, we’re proud to support initiatives like this that bring people together in service of our community. Events like this highlight the strength of Niagara’s partnerships and the generosity of its residents. Importantly, every dollar raised here in Niagara stays local, helping to ensure vital programs and supports continue to reach individuals and families who need them most.”

  • Sadie Boon, Manager, Resource Development, United Way Golden Horseshoe

The game remains an important example of strong community partnerships and of Ridley’s motto, Terar Dum Prosim, which translates to “May I be consumed in service.” Ridley College and its partners, the Niagara Regional Police Service, Community Care and United Way Golden Horseshoe, hope to continue to expand the game in future years.

About United Way Golden Horseshoe:

United Way Golden Horseshoe (UWGH) brings communities together to respond to the social challenges that affect people’s ability to live with stability and dignity. Across Brant, Haldimand-Norfolk, Halton, Hamilton, and Niagara, we focus on the issues that matter most and help connect people to the support they need. We help build a strong, connected network of wraparound support by bringing together community partners, local organizations, donors, and volunteers. Alongside fundraising, we strengthen the social services people rely on through capacity building, research, and advocacy that support better coordination and long-term solutions.
