Luca Martinez is a 20-year-old conservation filmmaker, speaker and Emmy Award-winning storyteller. With a profound dedication to preserving the natural world, Luca has introduced the beauty of the rarely-experienced Florida Everglades to over 1 billion worldwide viewers. His work and advocacy shine a light on the importance of wild landscapes, and he firmly believes that storytelling and filmmaking are powerful tools to raise awareness and inspire action. He recently returned from filming in the Galápagos Islands with National Geographic.
Luca speaks around the world at high schools and colleges, sharing his passion for wild Florida and emphasizing the importance of youth voices in conservation. Most recently, he spoke at Columbia University and the U.S. Embassy School in Egypt. Building on this work with students, he is currently filming and hosting a docuseries focused on keystone species, connectivity and the critical role of indigenous stewardship, designed to reach a broad audience and serve as an educational resource in classrooms.
Luca’s passion for conservation is deeply rooted in witnessing wild Florida disappear to development. This loss has fueled his mission to rewrite the future of these ecosystems.
He hopes to continue this work forever.
“Every single year, 100,000 acres of wild Florida are lost to development, that’s 12 acres per hour. Our relationship with this land will determine its fate, and the fate of the land will ultimately determine our own.”
