Remembering Brian Iggulden ’67

Today, we mourn the loss of one of the most influential Ridleians, Brian Iggulden ’67, who passed away on October 1st, 2025, at the age of 76.

Brian was among the most loyal and generous members of our community, dedicating his life to Ridley in countless ways. As a student, Brian first came to Ridley in 1961, but his legacy at Ridley began long before that, growing up on campus running around with brother Paul ’72 and sister Anne. During his six years as a student, Brian excelled in every sport, dominated the playing fields, gymnasiums and ice rinks and served as Head Prefect in his graduating year. After Ridley, he attended Middlebury College, where he played hockey and continued to embody the spirit of competition and camaraderie.

The Iggulden family’s legacy is woven into the fabric of our School, spanning nearly 90 consecutive years of service; Brian represented the third generation. His father and grandfather were both long-serving and revered faculty members; Cap from 1920–1946 and Colonel from 1949–1978. Brian’s remarkable 31-year career began at Ridley in 1978. His first task was revitalizing Sports Ridley, and, in 1985, he took over the Admissions Office. From 1989 to 2007, he moved into the Development Office and served as Director of Advancement before concluding his career as Deputy Head until his retirement in 2009.

Collectively, the Iggulden family has dedicated over 250 years to the school as students, employees, Board members and volunteers — a record that will likely remain untouched in Ridley’s history book. Brian himself is responsible for nearly one quarter of that service.

Even in retirement, Brian's commitment to Ridley remained unwavering. He volunteered on planning committees and fundraising campaigns, served as Class Agent for 1967 and acted as a Director with the Ridley College Fund USA Inc. Together with his wife, Rosemary, their contributions to our community are immeasurable. Their children, Natalie ’98 and Michael ’01, continue in the family tradition, which was a source of immense pride for Brian.

Brian's impact on Ridley cannot be measured by titles or achievements alone. His knowledge of Ridley's history, his gift for storytelling and his genuine warmth touched the lives of countless students, parents, colleagues and alumni worldwide. Brian had an extraordinary way of making people feel valued, and he rarely forgot a name or a story. Ridley has been fortunate to have him as our spokesperson, advocate and devoted Ridleian. The School is better for having Brian as an integral part of our history.

The Iggulden name resonates with every single living Ridleian. Whether through their interactions with Brian or another family member, or through time spent in “the Iggy,” his legacy will continue to resonate. The Iggulden Building, repurposed and reopened at last year’s Homecoming, will continue to serve as a lasting tribute to a remarkable family.

Brian embodied Ridley’s motto in every sense, truly consuming himself in service. He will be remembered for his leadership, spirit and unwavering dedication. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Rosemary, Natalie ’98, Michael ’01, the entire Iggulden family and his thousands of friends.

As we gather on campus for Homecoming this weekend, a celebration Brian rarely missed, we will raise our glasses in his honour. A special tribute will be displayed in the main entrance of the Iggulden Building, and flags will fly at half-mast throughout the weekend. You are also invited to place a flower in his memory next to the Hank statue, which was dedicated to Brian in 2008.

Plans are underway for a Celebration of Life at Ridley on Saturday, November 8th. Please mark your calendars; further details will follow.

Brian’s life and legacy will forever be part of Ridley’s story. He will be deeply missed.

Terar Dum Prosim,

J. Edward Kidd
Headmaster
