Academics
Ridley College is the only International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum boarding school of its kind in Canada.
Students in JK to Grade 12 progress through a continuum of learning defined by our three curricular programmes:
Ridleians have the opportunity to earn three diplomas upon graduation: the IB Diploma, the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and the Ridley College Diploma. Each acts as a ticket to the world, unlocking university and career prospects.
My education at Ridley is the groundwork for my future. It’s my ticket to get into the university of my dreams, and eventually that will lead me into my profession. Doors are opened for me here and that is my opportunity to become successful.

OUR APPROACH TO LEARNING
Complementing the IB philosophy, Ridley's approach to learning:
- Places the student at the heart of the learning experience teaches them how to learn
- Encourages critical thinking and asking challenging questions
- Explores understanding across disciplines
- Uses real-life examples to instil knowledge
- Inspires students to be active in their communities and to take their learning beyond the classroom
- Focuses on understanding and curiosity, not memorization.
The IB develops inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through education that builds intercultural understanding and respect.
- IB Mission Statement
THE LEARNER PROFILE
The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. Ridley learners will strive to be:
RIDLEY'S IB CONTINUUM
We offer three levels of IB continuum programming:
Primary Years Programme (PYP)
These introductory years of IB focus on the development of students as inquirers. PYP prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. By Grade 6, Ridley students have become skilled knowledge seekers who are capable of researching topics, building their own understanding and completing a cumulative PYP Exhibition project.
Middle Years Programme (MYP)
The intermediate MYP stage encourages students to make connections between their studies and the real world. It provides a broad and balanced education for early adolescents. By Grade 10, Ridleians gain a deeper appreciation for their personal interests, as well as possible post-secondary areas of study. Each February, those completing their final year of the MYP showcase their advanced thinking through their Personal Projects, which are celebrated by our community.
Diploma Programme (DP)
By the time students reach Grade 11 at Ridley, they can opt to continue with the IB DP and/or the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). To achieve their IB Diploma, senior students are challenged to reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research, and undertake a project that involves community service. The DP enables students to mature even further intellectually, emotionally and ethically. Students complete the DP Programme by delivering an extended essay, a process which is supported by a network of faculty members and advisors. Upon graduation, all Ridley students’ hard work is often rewarded with on average eight acceptances to their top universities of choice.
