St. Catharines, ON — Ridley College is thrilled to share that its Prep Boys basketball team won Canada’s National Prep Association (NPA) championship over the weekend. The game, held at Humber College on Saturday, March 28th, was a tightly contested battle between Ridley and King Heights Academy (KHA) of Thornhill, Ontario. Ridley defeated KHA by a final score of 98–84.
On the road to the playoffs, Ridley defeated Brampton City Prep in the quarterfinal by a score of 81–67. The boys followed it up with a resounding victory over regional rival Fort Erie International Academy in the semifinals, defeating them 100–81.
Ridley was led by finals MVP Caleb Roberts ’26, originally from Chatham-Kent, Ontario, who finished the game with 27 points on over 41 per cent shooting.
This is the first-ever NPA National Championship for Ridley College.
The team is coached by former Niagara River Lions Head Coach Victor Raso and follows up on last year’s first-ever Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association championship.
“I am incredibly proud of our Prep Boys. They embody everything it means to be a Ridley College student-athlete,” says Coach Raso. “To see them reach their full potential as a group and become National Champions is truly a storybook ending to many of their Ridley College careers.”
