Following his graduation from Ridley in 1974, Geordie attended the University of Guelph. He also completed the Executive Program from the Richard Ivey School of Business in 1995. From 1978 until 1991, Geordie held a number of senior management positions at Hendrie and Company, leaving as President of Hendrie Transportation in 1991 to pursue a new position as President of TST Expedited Services in Windsor Ontario.
Retiring in 2003, Geordie has since given his time and experience to volunteerism, serving as the Chair of the Board of Governors at Ridley, Director of the Jockey Club of Canada and Chairman of the E.P. Taylor Equine Research Foundation. He is also a past president of the Toronto Golf Club.
Geordie served on the Ridley Board of Governors for 16 years and as Board Chair from 2009 to 2014. He and his father, George Hendrie '49 have the distinct honour of being Ridley’s first and only father-son Chairs of the Board of Governors. Under Geordie’s leadership, Ridley graduated its first class of International Baccalaureate students, opened the new Tiger Arena and Fieldhouse, celebrated its 125th birthday, celebrated 40 years of women at Ridley, buried the school’s fourth time capsule, recruited current Headmaster Ed Kidd, and oversaw the development and launch of the school’s new strategic plan.
In addition to George '49 and Geordie '74, the Hendrie family legacy at Ridley continued with Geordie and Janet’s three children: Jeanie '05, Alice '07 and George '09.
