After attending Ridley from 1946 to 1951, Bill Breukelman earned an M.B.A., B.A.Sc. and P.Eng. As a company turnaround specialist, he has owned, founded and funded numerous businesses in the high technology field, with a particular interest in information systems and imaging. He is a pioneer in imaging, having been a principal and later Chairman of IMAX Corporation from 1970 to 1995.
As Chairman and principal of Business Arts Inc.—a high-tech incubation and investment firm—Breukelman supports its funding and co-development activities. Its investment interests include MDS SCIEX (a molecular imaging company), Arius3D (a surface imaging company), Cedara Software (a medical imaging company), as well as GEDEX™ (a geological imaging and discovery company). GEDEX received the
Mining Journal’s first internationally adjudicated award for research, which recognized that GEDEX is expected to have the most significance for mining in the future.
Breukelman was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2013 for his contributions as an entrepreneur, notably as co-founder of IMAX and other pioneering imaging companies.
