eLearning Summer Programmes

Ridley is a member of eLearning Consortium Canada (ELCC), the only provider of online courses specifically designed for independent and private schools in the country. Through the ELCC, we offer summer online programmes for Grade 11 and 12 participants.
The ELearning programme offers many opportunities for students. However, online learning is not appropriate for every student; please consult the Guidance Counselor at your home school, and check out the ELCC website to find out if these opportunity is right for you: http://www.elccanada.ca/
All course material is delivered through online instruction; there is no textbook required. Computer and internet access are a must. Students' login and password information will be provided in the welcome email from the teacher (which will be emailed to the email address provided on the registration form) a week before classes start. In order for students to be successful in this programme, they should expect to be online for their course every day. Students should expect to spend at least 6 hours/ day on these courses. Office hours are based on Eastern Time Zone.

  • Grade 11: Functions, University Preparation (MCR3U)

    This course introduces the mathematical concept of the function by extending a student’s experiences with linear and quadratic relations. 

    Participants will:

    • Investigate properties of discrete and continuous functions, including trigonometric and exponential functions
    • Represent functions numerically, algebraically and graphically
    • Solve problems involving applications of functions
    • Investigate inverse functions
    • Develop skills in determining equivalent algebraic expressions
    • Participants reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems

    Prerequisite: Principles of Mathematics, Grade 10, Academic
  • Grade 12: Advanced Functions, University Preparation (MHF4U)

    This course extends a student’s experience with functions and is often a university admissions requirement.

    Participants will:

    • Investigate the properties of polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions
    • Develop techniques for combining functions
    • Broaden their understanding of rates of change
    • Develop the ability to apply these concepts and skills
    • Refine their use of the mathematical processes necessary for success in senior mathematics
    • This course is intended for students taking the Calculus and Vectors course as a prerequisite for a university programme and for those wishing to consolidate their understanding of mathematics before proceeding to any one of a variety of university programmes.
    Prerequisite: Functions, Grade 11, University Preparation, or Mathematics for College Technology, Grade 12, College Preparation
Refund Policy
The ELearning programmes are run based on enrollment. Therefore, if a course is deemed unable to run due to insufficient enrollment, a full refund will be granted. Students will be notified by Monday, July 8, 2020 should this be the case. There will be no refund offered after July 5, 2020 if a course has sufficient enrollment. Cancellation requests prior to July 5, 2020 must be made in writing and submitted to the Summer Programmes office at summerprogrammes@ridleycollege.com. These requests are subject to 50% refund of the programme cost.

Refunds may take four to six weeks to process.
