Summer Symphony

The Summer Symphony Boarding Experience offers a full and varied schedule of appreciation and music training that includes:

  • Daily recitals featuring faculty and guest artists
  • Master classes
  • Orchestra, concert band, string ensemble, or choir participation
  • Crafts
  • Concerts
  • Evening rehearsals

Members of the teaching faculty are professional musicians and music educators selected for their knowledge and ability to inspire. These teachers are dedicated to creating an environment that instills a joyful appreciation of music, while developing strong technical and ensemble skills. Apprentice staff members are enthusiastic young musicians, many of whom are former campers, eager to blend learning with fun.

  • Summer Symphony Experience

    The daily music programme offers an opportunity for participants to explore their creative outlets through music lessons offered by dedicated professional faculty. Participants who have never studied music have the opportunity to try various instruments to unleash their hidden talents. Experienced musicians enhance their skills through individual and class study, collaboration in small and large ensembles, recreational activities, and performances. The evening and weekend programming will feature a variety of Ridley College’s robust co-curricular activities in addition to cultural day excursions to many awe-inspiring attractions within the Niagara region and Ontario’s capital, Toronto. Build lasting friendships with participants from around the globe.
  • The Symphony Academy

    The Academy is designed to challenge, support and inspire serious, advanced students of music by immersing them in theory studies and private instruction, continuing their skills development over the summer. Admission is by acceptance, dependent on ability. This programme is especially recommended for students considering post-secondary music studies.

    The Academy@SMC experience includes:
    • Theory classes and Conservatory Canada exam 
    • Presenting on-site and outreach chamber performances, which build confidence and expand repertoire, and performing in the session two SMC concert
    • Participating in mock auditions and receiving immediate, constructive feedback, honing skills in preparation for university or college entrance
    • Receiving private lessons and ensemble coaching
    • Enjoying private practice rooms and self-directed practice periods
    • Discussing practice strategies, audition preparation and repertoire choices with music professionals

Boarding Experience Features

The boarding experience also includes:
  • 24-hour dorm supervision by qualified Ridley College staff
  • Shared accommodation in Ridley dorms
  • Three meals
  • Health insurance while staying on campus
  • Access to 24-hour health care by medical professionals at Ridley’s Schmon Health Centre
  • Free WIFI access
  • Evening and weekend excursions such as: Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake shopping at the local outlet mall, Canada’s Wonderland, and day trip to Toronto.
The programme cost does NOT include: spending money (we recommend $300 CDN), initial arrival and departure transportation to and from Ridley and unaccompanied minor service (if required).
Refund Policy
Requests for cancellations or refunds must be made in writing and submitted to the Ridley College Summer Programmes office via email at All cancellations received prior to May 31, 2019 will be eligible for 50% refund of the deposit paid. If student’s visa is denied full refund less 10% of the deposit will be issued. Copies of documentation from the Canada Embassy will be required in order to process this refund request. Cancellations after May 31, 2019 will not be eligible for a refund.
A student whose participation is terminated due to behavior incongruent with Ridley’s Code of Conduct will not receive a refund.

Refunds may take four to six weeks to process.
