Guiding Principles

Layers of Protection

What we have learned is that no singular practice stands alone as a perfect deterrent to infection. Therefore, our mitigation strategy is characterized by overlapping layers of protection and risk reduction. Each of the measures outlined within this plan by itself is imperfect, but together, and working in support of one another, they can be highly effective in reducing the risk of infection and community spread.

Risk Mitigation & Harm Reduction

Ridley acknowledges that there is no reality of 'zero risk.' However, we will draw upon evidence-based research and public health guidance to create environments where the chances of exposure or harm are significantly reduced, while at the same time encouraging hygienic practices by our children and adults.

Shared Responsibility

Ridley is a community comprised of students, parents, faculty, and staff who work together to promote learning and child development. This shared responsibility extends to our approach to community health and wellness. Now, more than ever, our partnership and social contract demands that we take personal responsibility, subsume our individual needs to the good of the group, and regulate our response to things outside of our control.

Flexibility & Adaptability

As we move into the autumn and beyond, we will respond according to the public health landscape. This could see mitigation measures relaxed and loosened—or alternatively tightened, should it prove necessary. Therefore, we require a highly flexible model (and mindset) that allows for us to be nimble and quickly adjust, all the while maintaining our commitment to keeping our community safe and our learning experience world class.
