Summer Academy

Get to Know Our Summer Academy

We are excited to host a safe and educational, in-class learning experience on our beautiful campus this coming summer for Ridleians and non-Ridleians alike. Credit programmes designed to guide you and your potential, advancing towards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). A variety of courses are offered and delivered by our accomplished teachers within small class sizes.

  • Principles of Mathematics, Grade 9, Academic (MPM1D)

    This course explores mathematical concepts related to algebra, analytic geometry as well as measurement and geometry. These topics are examined through investigation, the effective use of technology and abstract reasoning.

    Students will:
    • Examine relationships, which they'll then generalize as equations of lines
    • Determine connections between different representations of a linear relation
    • Explore relationships that emerge from the measurement of three-dimensional figures and two-dimensional shapes
    • Reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems

    Dates: July 26th to August 20th
    Times: Monday to Friday from 9:00a.m. to 3:30p.m.

  • Principles of Mathematics, Grade 10, Academic (MPM2D)

    This course enables students to broaden their understanding of relationships and extend their problem-solving and algebraic skills through investigation, the effective use of technology and abstract reasoning.

    Students will:
    • Explore quadratic relations and their applications
    • Solve and apply linear systems
    • Verify properties of geometric figures using analytic geometry
    • Investigate the trigonometry of right and acute triangles
    • Reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems

    Prerequisite:
     Math, Grade 9, Academic

    Dates: July 26th to August 20th
    Times: Monday to Friday from 9:00a.m. to 3:30p.m.

  • English, Grade 10, Academic (ENG2D)

    This course is designed to extend the range of oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy skills that students need for success both in their secondary school academic programmes and their daily lives. It also readies students for the compulsory Grade 11 university or college preparation course.

    Students will:
    • Analyze literary texts from contemporary and historical periods
    • Interpret and evaluate informational and graphic texts
    • Create oral, written and media texts in a variety of forms
    • Focus on the selective use of strategies that contribute to effective communication

    Prerequisite:
     English, Grade 9, Academic or Applied

    Dates: July 26th to August 20th
    Times: Monday to Friday from 9:00a.m. to 3:30p.m.

  • Functions, Grade 11, University Prep (MCR3U)

    This course introduces the mathematical concept of the function by extending students’ experiences with linear and quadratic relations.

    Students will:
    • Investigate properties of discrete and continuous functions, including trigonometric and exponential functions
    • Represent functions numerically, algebraically and graphically
    • Solve problems involving applications of functions
    • Investigate inverse functions
    • Develop an understanding of how to determine equivalent algebraic expressions.
    • Reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems.

    Prerequisite:
     Principles of Mathematics, Grade 10, Academic

  • Advanced Functions, Grade 12, University Prep (MHF4U)

    This course extends the student experience with functions. It is intended for students taking the Calculus and Vectors course as a prerequisite for a university programme, and for those wishing to consolidate their understanding of mathematics before proceeding to a variety of university programmes.

    Students will:
    • Investigate the properties of polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions
    • Develop techniques for combining functions
    • Broaden their understanding of rates of change
    • Develop facility in applying these concepts and skills
    • Refine their use of the mathematical processes necessary for success in senior mathematics 

    Prerequisite:
     Functions, Grade 11, University Preparation, or Mathematics for College Technology, Grade 12, College Preparation

  • IB Prep

    The International Baccalaureate educational program is a highly respected, world-renowned international education that develops the individual’s intellectual, emotional, personal, and social skillsall of which are needed to thrive in a rapidly globalizing world. 

    This enrichment course assists those who aspire to enroll in the Middle Year Programme (MYP), the IB diploma programme or IB certificate programme by focusing on critical skills and thinking that would best prepare them for these curriculums. In addition, this course provides an overview of the IB Diploma Programme core which includes: the Theory of Knowledge course, Extended Essay writing, Internal Assessments, creativity, activity, and service. Effective research practices, study skills, time management, and inquiry-based learning will also be examined. Developing a clear understanding of the expectations of this academically rigorous educational program will help ensure student success.

  • High School Prep

    The transition to high school is one that comes with monumental changes and often insecurities. This programme is designed to help smooth this transition and teach the necessary skills for high school success. Gain confidence and a stronger understanding of high school expectations while focusing on the following important concepts:
    • Individual learning styles
    • Stress management
    • Time management
    • Study skills
    • Note taking
    • Test and exam preparation
    • Organizational strategies
    • Work habits
    • Motivation
    • Goal setting
    • Essay writing
    • Communication skills 
    This two-week enrichment programme is ideal for students enrolled in Grades 8 to 10. It is open to all students; both full-time Ridley students and non-Ridleians alike. Co-curricular activities allow for students to make lasting friendships and network with other high school students.

Summer Academy: Refund & Withdrawal Policy

Requests for cancellation or refunds must be made in writing and submitted to the Ridley College Summer Programmes office via email at summerprogrammmes@ridleycollege.com Requests for refunds received prior to four weeks before the start date of the programmes will receive a full refund less an administration fee of 10%. Refund requests received between one and four weeks prior to the start date of the programme are subject to an Administration Fee of 50% of the total fee. Refund requests received less than one week prior to the start of camp will not qualify for a refund. 

Pro-rated refunds are not available for days absent, meals not taken or other services not fully utilized. The full session’s fees are due and payable if a student is registered and attends any part of a session.

Any student who exhibits behaviour that is deemed inappropriate by the Summer Academy Principal will have their participation suspended or terminated without a refund. 

Ridley College reserves the right to cancel registration in the event of low enrolment or exceptional and/or unforeseen circumstances, and endeavours to provide one week notice, in this case a full refund will be issued.

If we are advised by the Provincial and Health Advisories to cancel any or all sessions of a summer programme due to Covid-19 regulations and restrictions, all registration fees will be refunded in full.
