Grant Graduated from Ridley in 1987 before continuing his education at Carlton University. After graduating a degree in Architecture in 1993, Grant worked with an architect in Europe designing cultural buildings. A few years later, he chose to pursue work as a set designer of feature films. He eventually worked his was up to the position of ‘Supervising Art Director’. Most recently, he worked closely with Steven Spielberg on the set of The BFG which is set to be released in July of 2016.
Grant’s role as Supervising Art Director involves working on large scale feature films for major United States studios including Warner Brothers, Paramount, FOX, Disney among others. He has worked with such high profile directors as Brad Bird and Steven Spielberg. In addition to enjoying the freedom associated with his job, Grant appreciates that designing movie sets allows for fantastical designs that are not tied down by building codes, budgets, or even the laws of physics.
Grant would be happy to speak with any young alumni looking to explore a career in design. He credits a kind series of mentors for his progress over the years, and he would like to pay this experience forward.
