A Spark for Learning

Our commitment to physical activity is based on extensive research into the benefits of exercise to the learning process. Research shows that regular exercise keeps the brain at peak performance and sparks the brain functions that enable learning.

With this in mind, Ridley has reconsidered the way we use time and has structured the Upper School schedule to include physical activity before, during, and after classes. Upper School classes start at 9:15 a.m. to allow students enough time in the morning to engage in some form of exercise before class. This helps students with the retention of new information and improves the ability to recall that information for the next eight to 10 hours.

Our use of time to accommodate exercise is an exciting shift in thinking and it is unique for independent schools in Canada.
