Buck, Frank '62 - Squash

Frank Buck from the Class of 1962 boasts an impressive list of athletic achievements—though he would never boast about them himself. One of the greatest lessons learned during Frank's sporting career at Ridley is the importance of being gracious to one’s opponents in both victory and defeat.

During his time at the school, Frank played quarterback on First Football, centre first line on First Hockey and opening bat for the cricket team—where he fondly recalls scoring a half century. He toured England with the Junior Canadian Cricket team, playing against schools like Eton and Marlborough.

Frank was also a member of Ridley’s squash team and went on to play at the varsity level for the University of Toronto, where he also served as quarterback for the Trinity College football team. Though gracious, there is no mistaking this inductee’s grit. Frank’s proud of his victory over the number one ranked U.S. Army squash player—a particularly challenging match in front of a gallery of West Point students who cheered wildly for his opponent, as well as every error Frank made.
“Always keep trying, regardless of the opposition, adversities, handicaps and obstacles.”
