Activity Programme
One of the major goals of Ridley College is to graduate well-rounded students, and the Activities Programme at the school helps to achieve this goal. Students learn about commitment, dedication and fulfilling obligations, and experience a sense of accomplishment and achievement through their participation in Ridley’s Activities Programme. We believe that social responsibility and service to a larger community are integral aspects of a Ridley education. By participating in the Ridley College Activities Programme, students also fulfill the Ministry requirement of 40 hours of community service (over four years of high school) in order to receive a provincial diploma as well as a Ridley College diploma.

Activities take place primarily in the first two terms (September to March), although some run for the full year (as indicated in the Activities Booklet).

First term activities run from September 13 to December 8, 2006 and second term from January 5 to March 9, 2007. All students participate in the Cadet Programme during the third term.

Participation in the Activities Programme is mandatory at Ridley College. The requirements, which vary from grade to grade, are as follows:

  • Grade 9s will be involved in the Cadet Green Star Programme during the first term; however, even during first term they may choose additional activities that do not conflict with the time slot for this activity. During the second term they will continue participating in activities of their choice.
  • Grades 10 and 11 must participate in activities in both first and second terms unless the chosen activity is a full year one.
  • Grades 12s are required to do one community service activity during the first term. They are encouraged to do additional activities during the first and second term.
  • Everyone participates in the Cadet Programme during the third term.
  • Attendance is compulsory in order to earn the credit for the activity, thus fulfilling both Ridley’s expectations for grade promotion and the Ministry requirement of forty hours of community service over four years of high school.
