Some of these prizes have been awarded since the founding of Ridley College and some have been created and endowed as recently as this year. These awards recognize excellence in such fields as sports, debating and public speaking, unique talents, theatre, and community service. While others such as the Mason Gold Medal, House Zealous, Judge Benson and Terence Cronyn award students for strength of character, leadership, diligence and integrity. And of course we recognize academic success at each grade level and within each teaching discipline.
The Headmaster’s Prize Committee is the body that stewards these prizes. This committee is composed of various members of faculty who oversee the various areas of Ridley associated with the categories of the prizes. Many of our awards are endowed and yet there are also many that were created out of necessity but are still waiting for a donor to come forward to endow it. The committee’s mandate is to consider proposed endowments and new prize proposals. When a donor recognizes the importance of our awards program and wishes to contribute to the College’s ongoing program to honour our students they contact the Chair of the Prize Committee who in turn takes their offer to the committee members for consideration.
