MacNaughton, David B. OR'67
David MacNaughton attended Ridley from 1964 to 1967 where he played football and hockey and was a Prefect. Graduating from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Arts in 1971, he served in the Government of Canada as Executive Assistant to the Honourable Don Jamieson, successively Minister for the Departments of Transport, Industry and Foreign Affairs. Thus began a 35-year career in business and politics where MacNaughton has been credited with shaping the public affairs industry in Canada. In the 1980s, he transformed the industry by building an organization that, for the first time, comprised government relations, public opinion research and public relations. After selling his business in 1989, he became CEO of Canada's largest government and public relations firm and subsequently North American CEO of the world's largest public relations firm. From 1996 until 2003 he was president of a company specializing in private-public partnerships and a senior advisor to one of Canada's leading investment banks.  He served as Chairman of StrategyCorp, a leading government relations & advocacy, communications and management consulting firm, from 2005 to 2016. MacNaughton’s public sector experience includes work at both the federal and provincial levels of government. A long-time Liberal Party activist, he has been involved provincially and federally in numerous election and political campaigns. In 2015, MacNaughton served as Ontario co-chair for the federal Liberal campaign that was successful in electing Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister. Active in community affairs, he has served on the boards of the North York General Hospital, the Stratford Festival, the National Ski Academy, TV Ontario, the Toronto French School and Comcare Ltd. His daughter, Erin graduated from Ridley in 1998. In 2016, MacNaughton was appointed by the Governor General of Canada to be Canada’s Ambassador to the United States.
