Hutcheson, Robert (Bob) W. '44
Bob Hutcheson was born and raised in Huntsville, Ontario where his family was in the lumber business. He attended Ridley from 1941-1944 and went on to study business, engineering and forestry at the University of Toronto. Starting as a salesman for Muskoka Wood Products, then Canada’s largest hardwood flooring supplier, he began his own business, Hutcheson Christmas Trees, which at one time had 3,000 acres planted with three million trees. He later owned Vernon Oil Products, a gasoline and fuel oil delivery company, and Lake Vernon Realty. He then started a sand and gravel business, Hutcheson Sand and Gravel that specialized in aggregates and Hutcheson Forest Industries, a unique land development company.
Along with generations of his family, Bob has contributed much to the fabric of Huntsville. The Hutcheson family has contributed to the original cottage hospital and the Huntsville hospital, donated land for the town’s cemetery and built the Huntsville Courthouse building in the late 1980's to provide a larger court facility for the Office of the Attorney General. Bob is a former Huntsville town councillor, Boy Scouts of Canada leader and, as an avid skier, president of the Huntsville Ski Club. The Muskoka Heritage Foundation awarded him the Natural Heritage Stewardship Award in 2004. He was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 and inducted into the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
