Dawn Demeritte is a graduate of the class of 2005. Following graduation from Ridley, Dawn completed her BA Political Science at Acadia University. She then completed her post-secondary education with a Postgraduate Diploma in New Media Journalism from Sheridan College.

Dawn held a number of key positions in the media industry before settling in her current role as the Senior Executive of Communications with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism (BMOT). In the past, she was the founder of Suburban Group Company, a journalism, public relations, and film-making company. She was also the Digital Media Manager for Resume Torotno, a VAT Communications Officer at the Department of Inland Revenue in the Bahamas, and a contributor for other publications.

In her current role, Dawn is a writer for the BMOT, a top Caribbean tourism destination. She is responsible for looking for stories that promote the Islands of The Bahamas. These include press releases, blogs and/or stories. She is also the “Romance Writer”, where she focuses on wedding events, promotion activities, and stories that tell of what the Bahamas has to offer to couples. She always believed that being a journalist would give her the chance to tell the stories about things she cared about and wanted to teach others about.

Young alumni that are looking to learn more about journalism, media, and public promotions should consider Dawn as a mentor.
