Alex Wilson Graduated from Ridley in 2000. Having always had an interest in advocacy and problem solving, Alex decided that the legal profession would be a natural fit for pursuing his interests. He enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts, History at the University of Western Ontario, Huron University College for his undergraduate before obtaining his Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s. He articled and worked as a lawyer with a full service law firm in Toronto (Cassels, Brock and Blackwell LLP) from 2006-2009 before accepting a position as in-house counsel with the Royal Bank of Canada’s Capital Markets group.

He now works as Senior Legal Counsel for Brookfield Renewable Energy Group, a publically traded renewable energy company. He provides legal support to the arm of the company responsible for marketing the energy generated by Brookfield Renewables’ energy facilities in Canada and the United States.

His responsibilities include negotiating long term and short term commercial agreements, managing regulatory requirements applicable to the sale of energy in Canada and the United States, managing litigation and supporting the company in the negotiation and execution of agreements ancillary to the business.

Young alumni looking to pursue a career in law or other legal verticals would be well served with Alex as their mentor.
