Abby Denyer has always been interested in working in an industry that combines both financial “quant” skills with qualitative business skills and she feels that banking has provided that opportunity for her. Banking gives her the opportunity to look at a broad range of companies and financing needs. Her job combines finance, accounting, strategy, and marketing skills, which means that no two days are alike.

Abby graduated from Ridley in 2000, and went on to complete a Bachelor of Commerce, specializing in Finance and International Business from McGill. She then moved to the UK, where she worked in the finance department of a Recruitment firm. In 2007, she moved back to Canada to pursue her MBA at Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Upon graduation from her MBA in 2009, Abby joined Scotiabank’s Global Risk Management Rotation Program, which gave her exposure to Market Risk, Retail Risk, and Credit Risk. Eventually she took a permanent position in Corporate Credit where she was a Senior Manager for 3 years.

Abby is now the Associate Director of Corporate Banking for the Credit Analytics Group. In her current position she oversees a team of Analysts responsible for rating analysis and portfolio monitoring activities of the Bank’s corporate loan portfolio. Additionally, she assists in the management of a portfolio of accounts, including corporate borrowers and trading counterparties.

Her role also requires her to mentor and coach Analysts to prepare them for eventual roles in the Corporate Banking field. Abby would be a wonderful mentor for young people with aspirations of working in the financial sector.
