Derek attended Queen’s University, where he obtained his BA in Psychology, followed by his BA in Film Studies a year later. After spending some time working for tourism-related companies (Walt Disney World, Shaw Festival Theatre, Elmhirst’s Resort), he realized that his calling was in the non-profit world changing the world, one gift at a time!
Derek is currently thePresident of iDophilanthropy and Co-Founder of Purpose Philanthropy. He brings experiences from both sides of the charity table. He works with organizations attempting to build their revenue stream and create a culture of philanthropy. Additionally, Derek works with corporate clients by teaching how to be strategic community investors in an effort to enhance their brand in their community.
Prior to his current position, Derek held advancement roles at Ridley, St. George’s, and Strathcona-Tweedsmuir. He also worked on campaigns for The Mustard Seed Society and the Centre for All Abilities. Derek is CFRE certified, and would make a great mentor for anyone looking to enter into the world of development, advancement, not-for-profit, or fundraising.
