McGlone, Samantha '97 - Triathlon

Samantha McGlone from the Class of 1997 was the Midget Girls Cross Country Run winner in 1993 and has since gone on to giant success as an endurance athlete. In the mid 1990s, it was not unusual to find Samantha McGlone running around A squad in the fading autumn sunlight preparing for her next Harriers meet. In the winter, she could be found in the pool, contributing to the success of the swim team, yet she also found time to try out hockey and was even a member of the First Girls team for a season. It’s no surprise that this athlete earned herself a Tiger Tie for all her athletic achievements at the school. Beyond the Ridley gates, she combined three of her passions: cycling; swimming and distance running. She began competing in triathlons and went on to great success in the sport, representing Canada in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games. Sam has also competed in several Ironmans and won a gold medal at the 2006 World Championships.
